How the points test works
Skilled visas 189, 190 and 491 use a points test. You need at least 65 points to lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) in SkillSelect, but invitations often go to applicants with higher scores, depending on the occupation and the program year.
- Subclass 189 uses your base points.
- Subclass 190 adds 5 points for state or territory nomination.
- Subclass 491 adds 15 points for state, territory or family sponsorship in a designated regional area.
- Skilled work experience inside and outside Australia is combined and capped at 20 points.
